Today we’d like to introduce you to Hester Parks.
Hester, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started planning weddings because a college friend asked me to help her plan her wedding. She thought I was organized and focused. With my accounting degree, I could easily help her plan her wedding on a budget, right? While helping her, I Initially thought I wanted to own a wedding venue. So after her wedding, I started taking classes to help me learn more about weddings. I took cake decorating classes from Michael’s bow making classes from a local floral wholesaler.
I took a wedding planning certification course at a local college, where I met my first business partner. The planning leading up to the BIG day was great! I was still working a full-time corporate job at the time but still was bursting with excitement to get home and plan weddings. The emotion on the wedding day helped me decide to stick with planning weddings rather than own a venue. My first business partner and I have since split but Park Avenue Events (my very own company) was nurtured from this first start and is now thriving.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I did have some challenges that caused me to change direction and I basically had to start from scratch with a new website, social media, business legitimacy. However, the people in this industry stayed by my side and help me pull through.
